One of my favorite choruses that we find in our hymnal is entitled “Give Thanks.” It is a reminder that we, of all people in the world, should be people who “Give Thanks.” We have become so accustomed to the Thanksgiving holiday, and to the yearly reminder to be thankful, that somehow the real meaning of this season has lost its impact. But, when I look at our world and at the events taking place, I am more thankful than ever for the blessings and privileges that I have. For example, we have just completed an election year in the United States. Regardless of your political persuasion or the vote you cast for President, the fact remains that in our nation we can still hold elections without violence, bloodshed, and revolution; events that regularly take place in many nations of the world.

We meet each Sunday and worship together without restrictions or fear of police interference; in many countries that freedom is denied. There are many, many other blessings that we have for which we should “Give Thanks.” So, whether we are with family and friends on Thanksgiving Day, whether we are worshipping together on Sunday, or whether we are just enjoying the day that God has given us, all blessings of God are reasons for us to “Give Thanks.”
